6 Down, 2 To Go

Wow, it's almost already a year since I started a new school. I can't believe I pass all the levels so far. *knock on wood* Two more to go and I am off to working in the real world where mistakes are not tolerable. It's been a fun and exciting year in school. To think a year ago, I didn't know the names of any basic tool equipments. Now, I can point and name them out just from a flyer and a Sears catalog. This sure beats years of frustration and disappointment at UBC. I am just not paper-writing material. If I enjoy writing papers, I would've gone to creative writing or journalism.

Who would have thought I enjoyed working on the helicopter? I sure didn't. I guess AR taught us really well especially during shop time. It was fun working on the Huey and trouble shooting. Too bad, there are too many people. Otherwise, I would like to actually participate in it rather than sitting on the sideline.

I never quite followed up on the headphones. They are great because I can hear background music more and soft vocals. It's really crisp. Although it leaks fair a bit of sound as the volume goes higher, it's still an enjoyable headphone. Whether you wanna shell out $300USD, it's up to you. Also, if you listen from mp3 files, the quality of your files and players affect the sound coming out. For those who think your sound sucks using this headphones, try changing the files and players quality. Don't use an iPod, stay with a computer or amplifier.

DECEMBER

It's the countdown of the end of the year. Last year, I was excited. This year, not so much. A lot has happened. I've been in school doing something I enjoyed for almost a year now. Starting to understand and read people more and more. To think in 5 months, I'll be entering into a new career. It's kinda scary and exciting at the same time. You never know what will happen until you do it.
These two days have been surprisingly sunny and warm in the hangar. It feels like summer all over again.

I finally get Monster Beats Studio by Dr. Dre. I have to listen to it, I can't wait anymore. I picked the White one because Black is overly used by now. We'll see how it sounds.

Do You Believe?

You know the phrase, "See it to believe"? Humans tend to suspect or doubt any events or people unless they see it with their own eyes. They don't believe something happened unless they either saw it in pictures, videos, or in person. If you are one of those people, let me ask you a question, "Are you religious?" If the answer is yes, "Why?" You have never seen Him, you have never experienced some wonderful miracles yet you believe in Him whole-heartedly. Faith is such a wonderful ideal, don't you think? It makes us believe a god that He is there for us when we are in need, that He is there to listen to us when we are troubled. That's pretty powerful.

If one day, a person comes up to you and tells you he is God. Would you believe him? After all, you have believed in Him only by faith. Now that a person in flesh told you himself, what would you do?

Skin Colour

It was and will always be an issue to talk about the colour of the skin. Whether it's black, white, yellow, red, pink, green, purple, blue. *shrug*
On Halloween, people like to dress up and have fun. You'll see guys dressing up as girls, girls dressing up as guys. Nothing is wrong with that until a white person painted their face black like one of ANTM's photo shoot. What's wrong with the problem if people want to become a different racial for a day or for a photo? They are not doing it to mock the race, they are doing it to represent something they like or for a photographic effect. Why do people make such a big deal out of it?

Hello Win!

Last night was Halloween. I didn't really do much. Went to Hell's Kitchen on 4th Ave with few friends. The steak wasn't that good and the poutine was too salty thanks to the bacon bits. Afterwards, all of my friends agreed to walk around Gastown. While we were half way there, one of them decided to hop on the Skytrain to go home. "Conveniently", the other two wanted to go as well. That's so fucking lame! If you don't want to go, just say so. Don't make lame excuses about not going. Fortunately, the remaining three of us walked from Gastown to downtown Granville. It was a long walk but fun nonetheless. There were quite a lot of people dressing up on the street. Less slutty people than I expected, hahaha. I guess they are hiding in clubs. While we were walking back to our cars in Gastown, we passed by a bunch of clubs getting ready to party it up. More people dressed up. The best costume was a FB guy with his profile hanging. The best moment was the glimpse of Allison Mack aka Chloe Sullivan from Smallville!!! I only saw the back of her head but it was worth it! Her friends or assistants were probably thinking who are those weirdos at the door, hahaha. I'll be super happy to see her again and take a picture with her!

BORING!!!

I feel iffy about this course right now. It seems kind of slow. During shop, we were supposed to rig an Aerostar 600a but after talking to the instructor, we are not allowed to remove anything, let along rigging cables. All we did was take panels off, look at stuff inside, put panels back on. Half of the time, we just put signatures and N/A the steps caz we can't disconnect ANYTHING! The most "interesting" tasks were jacking up and lowering the aircraft, taking chairs out and putting back in, and actually turning on the aircraft's battery system and actuate the trim tabs. That's not much stuff for a rigging course. BAH! 4 days of classes so far and 3 hours out of 12 hours of lecture in total. SOoooooo boring...

Is It Worth It?

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre = $350

Here are the equivalents that worth $350 or less:

PS3 250GB = $350
PS3 120GB = $300
XBOX 360 = $280
Nintendo Wii = $210
PSP Go = $250

Many people said the Beats Tour headphones are great but fragile. It has great bass and style. It's so hard to decide when you love music. I guess I'll wait for Solo to come out.

Seeking

Why do we idolize idols? Why do we seek materials?
It is the need to fill the holes that are within us.
We don't have the talents like the idols, we don't have items from other people.

We are all seeking something everyday.

What is missing in your hole?

Religious Controversy

If you combine all the religions together minus the extremists, I think you will get the perfect religion. Don't you think so? All the religions have their good rules to follow like, "don't kill" from Buddhism to Catholicism; "love one another" from pretty much all the religions; wouldn't it make sense that all religions were once ONE religion with ONE God?
From I learned from the Bible, God can appear differently in front of people all the time. Would it be possible that He once appear differently to the Buddists, Hindus, and Catholics, respectively?

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole... your voice makes me calm.

Your music gives hope not only to the Hawaiians but the world.

Technology

10 years seems to be a very short time compared to "birth of the universe". I've been in Canada for just more than 11 years. If I didn't think about this, I probably wouldn't have noticed the advance of technology.
When I first came to Canada, I could barely use the computer. The Internet was practically a new invention, not that many websites are created yet. However, my first real attempt at technology was ICQ. Yes, ICQ. An application still exists today but rarely used. I remember using ICQ and try to get a very "nice" number, as in very easy to remember like 11223344. People would brag about their 6-digits or 7-digits account. That showed how up-to-date they were with technology. One of the pioneers or "first" users on ICQ. How easily ICQ can get hacked or changed your own info to something ridculously fictional. That was the first time, I had reconnected with my friends from HK and probably the last time. I still remember at that time, the competition between AOL and Yahoo. Which company is better? Those free trial discs from AOL are always so worthless and used as a cup holder. The use of dial-up seems so fast even though it blocks the phone line.
Next big thing, I remember is MSN and Google. As more of my friends were switching to MSN because they claimed MSN better ICQ. I remember running both applications at the same time but I had more people on ICQ so that obviously different. I tried using AOL Messenger but it's not much different except less people used it. As time passes, ICQ is slowly phased out of my life. I had a record of 5 accounts at one time.
After MSN and Google, blogging begins. The first popular blogsite is Xanga. It sounded weird at first so I was a bit iffy about it. Finally, I caved in and gave it a try. It's actually pretty good. I tried doing different things with my blogs like ranting and writing random stuff. Eventually, privacy issues came up and people started to set up those walls to prevent stalkers. Internet stalkers sure are scary but knowing who they are is even worse. How? From alternate trackers offered through C++ codes. Some websites offer codes embedded in your site to tracker who is/are coming to view your page. Finally, Xanga caught on and have their own trackers. People are starting to avoid going to view other's pages unless they are actually following their blogs/readings, some people do that other than online diaries.
Blogging continues on as a new invention came up. YouTube. No one can escape the wrath of YouTube. I can bet my savings that ANYBODY with a computer with access to Internet has gone to YouTube at least once in their lifetime, whether voluntarily or redirected. I'll say YouTube is the most used "applications" in the web right now, if not ever.
Along side with the invention of YouTube, there came the Social Network, the first popular one is MySpace. Not Facebook. I never signed up for MySpace because I already have Xanga. I've seen people on MySpace, it's insane. You can add whoever you want on your profile. From real celebrities to strangers just wanna say hi. I am open-minded but I don't wanna meet strangers from webs, it's too creepy for me. Anybody can fake identities. However, I did join FB because it's different. In the beginning, it was a college-based web where you can meet fellow colleagues from your universities. Later on, it expanded to the rest of the people. I used FB to try to find old friends and get in touched. It actually worked based on the info you put in. In MySpace, you can't do that. Maybe you can but it's gonna be tougher to find common birthplace and school.
You see how quick technology advances? Once we found the new thing on the web, we go there and signed up, unless it totally sucks like AOL. Old applications are being replaced or phased out. If they want to keep up, they have to keep re-invent their appeal to attract or maintain users. In these short decade, the advance of technology sure is scary. I can't imagine what technology will bring us in the next decade.

Sustainable

Which one is better?

Washing lots of ceramic dishes or using lots of paper dishes?
Before you answer, think!
Logical thinking is towards washing lots of dishes rather than using lots of paper dishes, right?

I am not an accountant on household consumption but I know using water is not cheap.
How much is the hydro bill compared to paper dishes? Paper dishes can be recyclable and reuse. Water, too, I guess.

Soooo... back to the first question. Which one is better?

Fear

Why are people afraid of the dark? It's not because of monsters. It's because of the unknown within the dark. You don't know what is in the dark. People are afraid of the unknown. That's why being blind is scary to some people or walking in the dark.

We are live in the dark everyday metaphorically. There will always be something that we don't know about life, people, and objects. What we can do is keep walking forward hoping somebody will lend us a light to brighten things up to make it clear for us to see.

Dreaming

Dream is a way of communicating with your conscious. It may remind you of people. It may remind you of events. Most important of all, it tells you what is going on in your body.

I always have dreams about killing people. Getting violent or whatever. I don't really want to do that in real life. I think it's just a way for my dreams to tell me that I am stressful and frustrated in real life. My body is telling me to vent. What's better way to vent off frustration than killing people or blowing things up?

I also know my body is telling me my surrounding. There was a dream about me drinking lots of water and sitting in front of a TV watching J2 with sweats coming down my head. When I woke up, I realize I am fricking hot and I need a drink.

Dreams also tell you about how you feel about someone or people. If you are frustrated with people, you will want them dead or beat them up in the dream. If you really care about someone, you will see yourself spending time with them happily.

Dreaming is an amazing ability that we have. Even animals dream. I don't know what they dream about but I am sure it's similar to us. Scientists are still figuring out what is happening when we dream and they are trying to extract our dreams. I think that's neat. Seeing your dreams over and over, except nightmares, and figure out what is happening in your body. In the dream, the "time" may be long and random but in reality is only a short few seconds or minutes. You can see how powerful dreaming can be.

Never stop dreaming and pay attention to your dreams.

Injury Prone

I am very injury prone these two days.

Let's see... I somehow managed to slip off a chair forward with arm-rest and had a huge bruise on my hand. First, slip off forward is hard. I wasn't seeing at the edge of the chair. Second, I was reading an article on the monitor. How and why did I slip off the chair? It is interesting to see how a bruise form immediately. From red to blood vessels popping off to actual bruise within 30 seconds.

Then, today I burned myself with a D 1.5V alkaline battery. I was doing a lab with my partner and trying to create an electromagnetic field to pick up some washers. The instructor said three batteries will start to burn BUT I managed to burn my fingers with one. I just let my partner to do the rest of the lab.

Finally, hopefully it is, my leg cramped while I was sleeping. I hate that. I think I overextended the stretching to cause the muscle to contract to cause the cramping. I hate cramping, it's hard to stop sometimes. Imagine women has to endure that every month. Ouch...

Robots in Disguise

I caught the Transformer fever. I haven't watched Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) yet but I found myself researching a lot on the Transformers' toyline. I mean ALL the series toylines. I finally found myself a Japanese version of Alternators. Alternators are just modern, famous cars as Transformers, such as: Corvette, Ford GT, Mustang, Impreza WRX, RX-8, and S2000. The newest/recent ones from Japan has GT-R. Since everywhere is promoting ROTF toylines, it's hard to find the Alternators; it is especially hard to find Alternity. I have to go to Chinese malls to hunt the GT-R down. I finally found one! I wanted the Black GT-R caz it's sooo nice but I guess it's too new. There isn't any stores that have it yet. I settled for a silver one caz the red one is sold out. Red one is pretty nice too. It's Optimus in Red Convoy form. I will wait for the Black Convoy form to come out and get it, too. Hehehe.

Facebook Syndrome

It's a made-up term I just... made up? You know you have that syndrome when you check FB at least once every hour if you get the chance. The problem with FB is you don't really have privacy contrast to what FB wants you to believe. Heard of 7 degrees of separation? No? Look it up or search FB, they have a group there, hahahaha. Simply put, you know Person A who knows Person B. That Person B knows Person C. Indirectly, you know Person C. I think that's how it goes if not, oh well, I am sticky with it. Will your embarrassing pictures or rants about certain person will ever be private? NO. Once it's on FB, it will spread like wild fire. People can start sharing your pictures because Person A can just download the pictures and spread the shame - I can you could sue whoever is distributing it. You never want to post something private on your FB account because 1) people will find it and ruin your image; 2) it could be a criminal act in certain area if you did something like that and brag about it; and 3) your future employer(s) may look up your name to check your background before hiring you. If you plan to have a normal life without people making fun of your picture from a day you were really drunk with some criminal acts, don't post it on FB. Keep in somewhere safe where it cannot be downloaded online (getting hacked is an entire different story) unless you don't care about your reputation.

MY MONEY!!!

This morning, I had a very pleasant dream. I don't remember the specifics but I remember I was counting money. All of a sudden, my phone rung and I woke up to answer. This lady asked whether I called her. She had my number right, I am not sure about the area code, but I didn't call her. WTH? How did I call someone when I am counting my fortune? After that, my fortune was gone. I couldn't get back to my dream. I had another one though, I was fighting zombies/demons. Weird, indeed.

Hot Pot Heavyweight

Yesterday, I had hot pot at a friend's birthday dinner. I said I wouldn't eat hot pot caz it's too hot but it's his birthday so I didn't have a choice to choose the places. Steven and I owned a pot caz we are the heavyweights, hahahaha. We consumed 90% meat the entire night and last men eating at our table of 9. POSH is cheaper than most places but selection is rather limited compared to other hot pot places in Richmond. I am ready to take on any challengers to attempt for my Heavyweight title. :P

RTFI

RTFI is a very important piece to success. It is an acronym for Read The Following Instructions or Read The F'in Instructions. Apparently, I can't do that. Twice in my 6 months where I can get 100% on a very very simple calculation exam, I screwed it up because I didn't read the question carefully. I had the right answers but that's not what the question is asking for. ARRCK! I need to pay more attention to the question. I need to Asian pass this course, hahaha. If I can get an A in first year university electrical physics, I can ace this course.

My cheap $7.00 calculator (Sharp EL-510R) can do a better job than school's bigger $12.00 calculator (TI-30Xa).

Absence

Oops. I've been gone for almost a week. I was too lazy to update during the weekend.
Good news is that my original instructor was back on Monday. He is much better and more entertainment than the sub. He has really nice about teaching and staightforward, too. I was falling asleep anymore.
Learning material is starting to get tougher but I am handling it and understanding it. That's a good start. Building and testing circuits are fun. The fun part is that my partner and I burned a resistor, haha. We used the wrong resistor and the current was too high and burned the resistor. Other than that, this way of learning is better than UBC's first year physics.
Canada Day tomorrow. I'll probably stay home and study for a simple Series circuit test.

Our burned resistor. Supposed to be 1000 Ohms but we used 100 Ohms. Oops.

Work!

Back-to-back post because I was too tired yesterday.
This morning class is still bleh but I have food to keep me awake. It was raining for the first time since... I don't remember. I am happy with the rain caz it's not too heavy and light enough to feel cool. Construction on No.2 and Railway at the same way pissed me off caz those two roads are the quickest and construction traffic directors are dumb. They can't read traffic. But now Railway is done, I can just take that.

Oops, I went off a tangent there. In the afternoon, we finally get to WORK! I was excited for that caz I won't be bored. Soldering is quite fun if you can handle the fumes. Some idiot kept complaining about the fumes stink. SHUT THE **** UP! We know it bugs you. Frankly, I don't care. I am actually doing a decent job thanks to watching my dad when I was young and I was used to the smell while watching tv, hahaha. I hope I can sneak in a shot of my work tomorrow during break time.

I have no idea what this is yet.

Looks like some kind of solenoid inside with a trigger if circuit is closed?

My motivation: Choco-Banana Pocky.

*ZZZZzzzzz*

That's how I felt yesterday and actually did for couple minutes in class. I can't help it. The setting of the room is not very motivating. I try to keep myself awake so I start playing with LED lights and testing them.

The multimeter: volt, amp, ohmmmmmmm.

The variable output power source. I am testing LEDs like Christmas light.

AC/DC

*Dun Dun Dun*
The beginning of the infamous course = Electricity!
First day was boooooorrrrring. The sub spent 1.5 hours talking about what we WILL be learning on a 3 pages piece of paper. He has a Portuguese accent and he is extremely slow but he explains things well. It was so slow to a point where we spent the full day listening about what an atom is, electron flow vs. convention flow, resistance, ion, and how to calculate a simple battery, resistance circuit. We learned that already. A quick refresh lesson would help but not a 3 hours lesson. He said we are already behind already... no really? You think so? On the first day? Almost everybody was so bored they wanted to find something to do. Sleep, spin around on the spinnable chair, adjust the height of the chair, playing with leftover resistors, re-organize their little toolbox, etc. I hope things will pick it tomorrow. I can't sit in class and listen to Grade 9-11 stuff for 6 hours any longer.

Trying to keep myself entertain... so...

Terminated

Level 3 is done!!!

The bad news is 2 of our crew got terminated temporarily. They didn't pass a course so we have to say goodbye to them when we get to Level 5. Level 4 is famous for huge failure rate so I'll have to do my very very very best to stay alive.

On another note, I had Cheese Ramen at Kintaro in downtown. It's super super good and filling. It's not salty as people had commented. Try the Cheese Ramen when you have a chance.

Classical Comedy

I've discovered this duo while surfing for a musical version for "I Will Survive". Igudesman and Joo are two talented violinist and pianist, respectively. They put a spin on classical music or music in general. They incorporate comedy in their routine. They have make instrumental music even more interesting. They are performing in September in Vancouver. I would love to see them play in person. A little classical music along with comedy skits. They are very popular in Europe and they are touring around North America and Asia. I would love to see them even more with Gidon Kremer and his orchestra. They played excellently with each other.

The following is a clip from their performance with Gidon Kremer (Older person), watch it in HD, it has a better resolution:

If I Am Rich...

If you are rich, what would you do?

If I am rich, I would like to travel around to see the world. Learn different languages and cultures. Taste different food. See the different side of a country.

If I am rich, I would buy cars just to sit and look at them. I would not drive them. No. I would get someone to drive me.

If I am rich, I would adopt animals from shelters and give them a good life. They deserve better than a needle in the leg to put them to sleep forever. I would never put them to sleep unless they are in horrible pain.

If I am rich, I would donate my money to charities so they can help other people or animals in need.

If I am rich, I would not be writing this blog about "If I am rich..."

If I stop dreaming about being rich, I can get back to reality and get back to work.

Deep inside of us, we are all full of riches. It may not be money but our hearts are full of wonderful thoughts about the world. Those thoughts are something that cannot be bought.

Oooops

I forgot to write an entry yesterday. What was I doing? Hmm.. I don't remember.
Nothing much happened just a relaxing day to rest.

FRIDAY!!!

I like Fridays because it's the beginning of weekend and catching up with sleep days. Usually, I don't feel like working on Friday but I already experienced that on Wednesday and Thursday so I decided to put an effort on working. I got a fairly good mark on my practical assignment that worths 40%. Jason and I did a pretty good job despite we finish last.
We are so friendly with Mr. J now after two consecutive days of getting yelled at and lectured about being logical, hahaha. He sure is a hard person to deal with sometimes, now I know why 7 people failed in the afternoon class while he was teaching level 1. I am glad Mr. E is back. He got a great sense of humour.

Anyways, do you believe a car will send you email monthly to tell you how the status of your car system? You'd think that's crazy right? From what I heard, Mr. J said his car can do that. His car can even shut off 3 cylinders when not needed from a V6 engine. I don't know if anything of it is true but here is his "high-tech" car.

Watch Your Back

Sometimes, it's very tempting to talk behind people's back. I try not to do it but lately, I can't help it. Maybe it's the fact that I've dealt with these bunch of people for too long. I see them everyday. I do get sick of them sometimes. It's funny how the instructor said we'll get on people's nerve when we are a year later. Well, we are a special class. We are doing this since we started. It could only get worse. I feel very moody going to school everyday. Different people piss me off everyday. It sure makes it more interesting. It's easier to vent with among ourselves. Well, I can't wait to actually go into the workforce. I'll be learning more things while getting paid to do so. Should I apply for work study to earn some cash? My bank account is diminishing and I want to buy junks, hahahaha.

iDiary

I am tempted to write a short, brief diary everyday like I saw on some Japanese artists' blogs.
It's short and concise with a picture attached to every blog. Interesting, indeed. This will keep my mind off FB. I should start one tomorrow to see if I can maintain it for a month as trial.

NoBook

Hmm... I wonder how many people read this. I have deactivated FaceBook for a short while because school has been surprisingly busy and I tend to click on FB unconsciously during those busy time. That is not a good thing so I've deactivated my account for now. I'll be back in two weeks-ish. Anybody needs me, just email me or find me online. I should write more on here. I have too many thoughts lately. Hmm...

McLovin'

Animal lovers love animals. Yes, that's great. What if they eat meat? They love animals but they eat them? It's ironic, I agree.
What about vegetarians? They have different categories depend on what exception they have. People would think they are better than meat eaters because they don't eat animals. If you think about, they are not that much better than meat-eaters. Well, they eat plants. Plants are essential to give out oxygen for us to live. Some vegans think eating animals is wrong but animals are living things. What about plants? Don't they always grow and live? Plants are living cells, too. They just don't have the legs and brains; they are still living organisms.

So next time, don't said eating animals is bad when you are eating other living things.

Happy Birthday!

In less than an hour, I'll be over my birthday so I should finish this quickly.
Usually, people have lots of luck on their birthday. Well, I am unusual than most. I am having such a bad day that I am surprised. School project was getting frustrating and I couldn't get the measurement of the dimension right. I was literally telling people to fuck off because I was so frustrated. People are bailing out on my planned dinner. I should never plan because it never goes my way. Is it an bad omen that I'll have a bad 23 with things start out like this when I am entering a new age? Imagine entering 24, that's "die easily" in Chinese culture's superstition.

On the bright side, getting angry at the world has an up side. I am working hard to distract myself from those people. I guess there is some good coming out of this. I am not asking much right now. I just want to sit somewhere quietly and drift off to nowhere, peaceful and not a care in the world.

Exorcism

19Jan2009 Friday - Really Foggy

I got off school early today because the whole class decided to skip the coffee break after lunch. To me, it doesn't make a difference because I solemnly take the afternoon coffee break. I just keep working in the shop. At 2:30pm, we are ready to leave but I don't want to leave. I want to stay and keep working. That's probably the first time in my school life that I said, "I don't want to go home."

Early in class, my classmate asked why I am so hardworking, am I being possessed? - I was looking at the textbook the entire time - I felt offended actually. Why can't I be hardworking? Just because he doesn't do his homework and read the textbook during class doesn't mean I can't. I want to figure out the different numbering system for different bolts and screws. I want do something great and be an excellent AME in the future, is that so shocking?

Procrastinate Later

I guess I've been lazy since my first post from 3 or 4 months ago. I was taught by a very bright tutor during my grade 12 year, Albert. He told me about the ultimate laziness; it's a very deep meaning to me.

He said if you are truly lazy, you would only do things ONCE. You should try your best at the first time on everything, no matter what, whether it was school, work, or life. When you work hard and succeed at first try, you don't have to be do it again because you are too lazy to redo all the process. That's the ultimate laziness. Not a lot of people can understand this meaning because lazy and success don't link together, so they said it doesn't make sense at all. To me, it made a lot of sense. I know I am lazy, my parents said I am lazy, my friends said I am lazy; yet, I haven't grasp the true meaning of being lazy. I still have to redo some work to perfect my assignments or whatever. Right now, I think I am starting to understand this meaning. I can't rush myself to do things. I have to take it slow and to observe what others are doing wrong so I won't make the same mistakes as them. This way, I don't have to redo my work and waste my time because I am just a lazy person and I am too lazy to do it again.
