Together As One?

On March 10, a Richter scale of 8.9 earthquake stroke Japan causing massive damages, death, and injuries. The death count and damages are severe. Thanks to technology, we have instant views of damages done by the earthquake/aftershocks and tsunamis. We can see how devastating a natural disaster can be. It is rated as one of the top 5 earthquakes since Richter scale was introduced and recorded. If you think about this, natural disaster is the only way to unite the way. There are no news on scandals, no news on wars in Libya, no news on gossips. Every media is front-lining Japan. Is this how we come down to? A natural disaster damaging enough to remind us that we are living in the same planet and we should act like one. Many people are tweeting, posting, encouraging others to donate to Red Cross. It takes a natural disaster to unite everybody to help those in need. I just find that ignorant. Many people are in need everyday. People in less-developed countries are in need every single day. Yet, they don't receive any recognition or a lot of support and help. Is this what we need? A massive disaster to alarm people that there are other people in need in this world. I am not sure. People always get caught up in their daily life that they stop thinking about others. We spent lots of money on food and clothing. Yet, not a large portion of the money goes back to the source. The farmers who spent more than 8 hours a day to tend their farms. Factory workers who work for low wages for our appliances and tech gadgets. With the increase with food prices, we pay more. The primary source still receives the same low return. This makes me sick. Very soon, there will be some assholes starting to scam our generous heart by creating frauds involving donation to Japan. Just wait and see. That's how unfortunate a world we live in.
