Girl Groups Addiction

Can't stop listening to couple korean girl groups' songs lately. I usually have favourite ones like 2NE1 and KARA. These few days, I have been listening to Co-ed and T-ara.

Co-ed is a cool band as it is the first Korean "co-ed"/boys-girls-mixed idol groups that I've seen. Their songs are really nice and their outfits are not too revealing. Unfortunately, only couple of people manage to sing in each song and they are the same people which makes the rest of the group as backup dancers. I hope they get a chance to show off their actual vocal skills. My favourite is Chanmi because she can actually sings in the group and sings the most out of the girls. I Love You A Thousand Times is a great song to show off their vocal skills without autotune.

T-ara is another interesting girl group. Their song, "Why Are You Being Like This?", is a catchy song and I like that tune. It feels a bit oldies. It's hard to explain. I like that song. But they added a new member. Is she really needed? Who knows...

Now... SNSD, I personally think half of them aren't even needed except for image-impacted; hate me all you want because it is true. Someone actually did a rough estimate on how much time each member sings. That's not including the "all together chorus". SNSD has an average length of 9.4s. That's not much. For some songs, they don't even have a solo or line. I understand each song is different but why do we even need more than 5 members in a group. I think 5 is really pushing it, that's if they each have a special skills. SNSD is only famous because of their choreography dances, "cute" images, and catchy songs. They never really prove themselves vocal skill-wise except for Taeyeon and Jessica who did collaboration with other artists.

Personally, I think Co-ed can make it big if other members have a chance to show off their skills. Their songs are nice, too. Unfortunately, there is a rumor that a new female member will be added to them. WHY?! They don't need anymore backup dancers. My guess is media attraction. If each member attracts 10 fans, more members equal more fans. Look at SNSD!!! You can tell by now, I am not a fan of them. I don't hate them but I don't think they are a good vocal group as a whole. They just have lots of fanboys/fangirls who think they are cute. Some other girl groups or even solo artists deserve more attention, such as: Navi, Gummy, Brown Eyed Girls, and Lyn. But it's Korea, what do I know.
